I am looking forward to Winter Holidays, I think they are the best mid-term break, they're so good to get some relaxation and also, those days are a good opportunity to make the best of the spare time.

This year, in particular, my plans are very very flexible. In the first place I'm planning to stay home for a week or so, becuase I need to clean out everything and tidy up some areas of the house. Then, I'm planning to travel down south, just to visit and also I am eager to visit a friend of mine, who's living in Puerto Varas and I haven't seen since she left.

I am very glad because, probably, this year my holidays and my family's will match! it'll be so great to be with my nephew and nieces, to share a laugh with them and to spend some time with my parents and sisters, also, I am very happy I will see my friend in the far south, I think that seeing all my people will make these holidays the best.

I think, my family and I will go somewhere in the country, to share an "asado" and some good family games, also I will cook with my mum, I don't know what yet, but I know it'll be awesome. In puerto varas, I'm sure we will tour around the lake, probably we'll go to a trekking activity in the woods and who knows what other adventures we'll have, the only thing I am entirely sure of, is that these holidays will be really hectic and fun!  :-D

Level 4, Post 7: Free Topic: "A Meal I like to Cook for Myself"

Hi ICEI bloggers:

Today in our Hangouts Online Class we decided the following:

TODAYS TOPIC: "A Meal I Like to Cook for Myself"

Write 230 words about:
 - what it is.
- when you like to cook it
- how you cook it

My example:

salpicón-de-atún

Good day Everybody!, I hope you are enjoying the new season!
Spring is a really pleasant time in the year, don't you think? ...Anyway, today's topic is...well yah!...FREE!
Though...we have selected the following topic (min. 160 words, post three classmates) :
My Favourite Recipe for Cooking on my Own.
I have lived on my own for some good years so far and in most cases, catering, has been a daily issue to think over...specially when mom's not around!
I have always been related to the kitchen; my mum, as a child, would always say every person should know how to cook at least the minimum so as to survive in a good way. Considering also that I grew up in a time when big supermarket chains did not exist, a time when imported and/or processed food did not arrive and a time when cazuelas, humitas, porotos and several other, quite elaborate recipes, therefore....if you didn't cook, you couldn't eat.
Having grown around people cooking everywhere, it became natural to learn cooking methods, IO learnt the ways of chopping onion, how to cook it for different purposes, I also learnt about timing..well, I learnt this only after a time I bought a meat and cooked it on the grill but iy wasn't meant for it, but it was for cooking stews!!!
Anyway, nowadays, I live on my own, I have a demanding job (test to make, correct, handouts, bla bla bla) so with this lack of time and the need of eating healthy food, I like cooking my mom's sunday recipe:
Tuna Salad:
salpicón-de-atún
I open a Tuna can, I chop and wash lettuce (any kind, though I prefer iceberg lettuce), I chop onion and let it sit with salt for about 5-10 minutes, then it becomes softer. I wash it and get rid of the strength of its flavour and the salt. I mix everything in a big pot...To dress it, I add lemon juice, canola oil (or any oil), some good mayonnaise and salt. Then, I eat it and go to work again. Well.... however, I still like taking time for cooking!

LEVEL 4 - POST 6 - POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (WEEK 8)
Write about a postgraduate course that you would consider taking in the future (220 words)
Include:
- Reasons to do the course
- Subject(s) you would like to studyi
- Where you would like to study (Chile or abroad)
- How you would like to study (distance learning, blended system, part-time course, etc)
- Any other relevant ideas

For the time being I am a bit overwhealmed with projects so I do not see any chance of coming back to uni to pursue a postgraduate degree.
However, in the future I would like to take up on a postgraduate course on Multilinguism and Language Planning, because I believe the future of our nation will need people prepared to do research on the topic of how the establishment will allow languages to coexist or will make them extinguish.
Language Planning is a field within Applied Linguistics, it is a conscious effort to propel the function, structure, or acquisition of languages or language variety within a speech community, it includes government planning, but is also used in a wide range of non-governmental organisations. The goals are diverse but it concentrates mostly on making planning decisions and possibly changes for the benefit of communication.
The is a course I really like which is an integrated programme between The Netherlands and Barcelona in Spain. I’d love to take it there because those are country where multilingualism is a vivid reality.

In the future I think migration and immigration will be situations that will impose new challenges on Chilean society and one of the dimensions for this challenging opportunities to materialize will be Languages and Communication.

Dear all:

The following video is due to next week, however, given that I had very few students today, we have decided to put off the deadline for wednesday 25th May, at the start of the class. The evaluation will be done upon the criteria presented in the previous video activity.

INSTRUCTIONS VIDEO #2 (25-05-2016, START OF CLASS) :

Record a 2 minute mobile phone video presentation* about a journey you would like to make in the future.

Say:
Where you would like to go,
Who you would go with,
Why you would like to make this journey,
What things you would like to do on the journey.
Mention anything else you think is important.

A mobile phone video presentation is a video of the student talking directly to the camera. This activity is seen as part of the learning process. Videos are made in the students’ own time and they are free to practice and record as many versions as they see fit in order to complete the task. However, the final video must be in one take (i.e. they must not be edited). Moreover, you should be able to see the student clearly in the video (i.e. No sunglasses!). ______________________________________________________________________________

I studied English Linguistics, and I always thought "what would my future job be?". And here I am!!

I wanted to have a fun, light, easy going and not too hard to do job, but always wanted to be with people.

From all the many areas I could work in, I always wanted something neither too-much outdoors nor indoors, furthermore I wanted something that would produce some kind of social change, a good important and deep change.

In other matters, I wanted to travel, to see the world, to meet strange people, well... strange meaning, different than me and my friends and family. With teaching languages, I have been able to do all the former, which leads me to think it was the right choice.

I tried working in an office once, in a job that was not as stressful as a teacher's job but after a year, and after missing the classrooms a lot, I decided to go back to stressful, challenging but rewarding teaching.

Nowadays, I am thinking on taking up on PHD studies in the field of Applied Linguistics, I would like to do it either in the Netherlands, Switzerland and/or England.

I would like to do it in those countries, well, in the two first ones because they have a long history of successful multilingualism and because they are definitely good at languages. England on the other hand, would be my last choice, and this is because of a fact that gave birth to a joke, that is, - and please, no offense-, but the joke says: "how do you call a person who speaks only one language? […] you call them British"...LOL

Level 4 - Post 4 (week 6) THEMED POST N°2

We have decided that today we will write about our pets.
Cover the following topics:
- How did you get it and what is it?
- What Characterictics does it have?
- What importance does it have in your life?
* In case you do not have a pet, let us know about someone you love who owns a pet.
- Comments: leave a comment on your post + 3 of their classmates posts
- Word Count: 200 words

 My Pet .

I have recently adopted Dulce at an “Adoption Session” sponsored by Garras y Patas Foundation, there I found Dulce, a very beautiful, two-year-old, female dog. She is a mixed dog and before we came across with each other, she had been given for adoption because her previous owner had got very ill and could no longer take care of her. Luckily, she didn’t spent too much time waiting for someone to take care her!

She is an old dog but paradoxically full of energy. She was not trained as a puppy and despite she has some bad habits she has never spoilt it badly inside the flat, the only very big issue with her is that she pulls on the leash! she’s always pulling and barking at cats in the streets which is dangerous because a fierce cat could attack her. Another thing is that she doesn’t have the best fur quality, she always losing it and I have to brush her twice a day, also I walk her three times a day and feed her also three times a day.

I look after her the best way I to have her in the best possible shape, after all she is my companion and at times I see her as my family, she is not very independent as any other dog so I have to arrange my schedule to have time to see her that’s why we spend quite a lot together and little by little we have become a small but very loving, human-dog pack.

When I was at school learning in my family was a "must", one could not prevent oneself from learning because in doing so, all the hell punishments would fall upon you. Consequently with their belief and even though we were not at all a wealthy family my parents were always buying books for us at home. So learning was something compulsory, it was strongly praised with money if the grades we got at school could show we had learnt or severely punished if the outcome was otherwise.

In this context my relationship with the language, at first, was totally instrumental and money triggered, I needed a good grade and by getting it I would receive money from my parents, and my personal need for acceptance and the continuous stress for being good at learning made me learn it fast and be one of the best in the subject.

Later on, in high-school, my relationship overcame this instrumental period and it turn to be meaningful in other and more diverse ways; in my need for acceptance (not only from my parents now) I noticed that by being very good at learning it, I would receive more appraisal from the school institution and also my classmates would seek for my help to study. So I became the "guy of English" and at some point I made more friends and became more popular and accepted due to my internalization of the foreign language.

Years after, I noticed I had developed "the taste" for teaching and English, so I though why not to mix both interests and venture in the study of the language aiming at teaching it later. My perspective and the significance became mixed, on the one hand it had an emotional root and on the other a professional (instrumental) perspective.

Nowadays, my relationship is more instrumental than ever because with all these many years of learning and training for it, it became no longer distant from my internal world and I have naturalized it so deeply that I no longer think about the learning of it, now I am more concentrated on thinking about teaching it and how deep my way of teaching can influence the lives and perhaps, evolution of the people I have the opportunity of meeting in my classroom.
